About

Mission:

Remedia is a nonprofit organization that works in international partnerships to promote the revitalization of practices of traditional medicine through innovative research, education, empowerment, and media production.

Vision:

Remedia is working to realize our vision of the revitalization of traditional medicine throughout the Americas for the betterment of human health, the preservation of valuable cultural knowledge and the advancement of science.

Purpose and Position:

Remedia is committed to combining traditional knowledge and scientific research with technological innovation to tackle the complex contemporary problems jeopardizing the health of the world's cultures, ecosystems and populations.  We aim to restore the prestige and economic viability of traditional medicine as an occupation, while finding culturally-specific ways in which tradition can coincide, be maintained, and developed within the framework of current modernity and globalization.  We seek to actively address gender, class, racial and ethnic barriers to the improvement of health and livelihoods, and to prioritize education and training at all levels.  Through the utilization of new technologies, traditional practices including medical and agricultural can be recorded and transmitted in novel forms revitalizing endangered knowledge regarding the relationships between humans, the natural world which they are a part of and the health of both.  Similarly, the revitalized traditional knowledge will be used to inform scientific advancements in areas of medicine, agriculture, conservation and cultural preservation.  Rigorous scientific studies across our diverse array of expertise in the natural and social sciences will accompany and inform programs carried out by the organization.
