Traditional Maya Medicine Apprenticeship Program
In collaboration with the Belize Indigenous Training Institute, young apprentices are being matched with master Maya healers to begin their education in traditional Maya medicine, with training in medicinal plants, traditional diagnostics and treatments.
Formation of Maya Women's Medicine Collective
In collaboration with the Belize Indigenous Training Institute, Maya women in southern Belize with extensive knowledge of traditional medical practices are being organized into a collective for mutual knowledge sharing, as a counterpart to the male Q'eqchi' Healers' Association.
Traditional Medicine, Agriculture, and Spirituality Radio Show Series
To air on Ak' Kutan FM, Mayan language radio station, which broadcasts to indigenous villages in the Toledo District of southern Belize. Both podcasts and English language translation transcripts will be available for download.
Indigenous Language Courses
Free, weekly language courses open to everyone will begin this summer in Punta Gorda, Belize. Q'eqchi' Mayan, Mopan Mayan, and Garifuna classes will be offered, with hopes of expanding to offer courses in Creole, Spanish, and English as well.
